Railroad Laborer (Trackman)

North American Rail Solutions (NARS) is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Trackman I. This entry-level role supports the construction, maintenance, and repair of railroad track systems. It requires physical stamina, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in outdoor environments as part of a crew.<br><br><strong>Major Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li> Install and maintain railroad tracks, embankments, and related infrastructure, including special track work, signage, and rail lubrications.</li><li> Perform track construction and repair tasks such as replacing rail and ties, adjusting switches, and building track sections.</li><li> Operate manual tools (e.g., picks, shovels, spike mauls) and specialized hydraulic or pneumatic equipment.</li><li> Conduct visual inspections of track components to identify wear, damage, or safety concerns.</li><li> Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.</li><li> Accurately record work performed and report issues or incidents to supervisors.</li><li> Respond to after-hours and weekend callouts for emergency track repairs and derailment recovery.</li><li> Assist in re-railing train cars and restoring track integrity.</li><li> Participate in safety briefings and contribute to discussions on jobsite hazards and best practices.</li><li> Support site setup and cleanup to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.</li><li> Follow all company, federal, state, and local safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and prompt hazard reporting.</li><li> Collaborate with crew members and maintain professional, respectful demeanor on job sites.</li><li> Utilize basic digital tools (e.g., QR codes, timekeeping systems) as required.</li><li> Performs all other duties as assigned.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Requirements<br><br></strong>Education Required:<br><br><ul><li> High School Diploma or GED preferred<br><br></li></ul><strong>Work Experience Required<br><br></strong><ul><li> Prior experience in railroad, heavy construction, or maintenance industries preferred.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Skills & Knowledge Required<br><br></strong><ul><li> Ability to understand and follow verbal and visual instructions</li><li> Strong teamwork and communication skills; capable of working independently when needed.</li><li> Physical ability to lift up to 100lbs, climb, kneel, and work in varied outdoor conditions.</li><li> Comfortable working at heights and in all weather extremes (heat, cold, rain, snow, sleet).</li><li> Willingness and ability to travel to various job sites, including weekend and overnight stays, and short-notice mobilization.</li><li> Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a willingness to learn new skills.</li><li> Respond appropriately to safety signals and warnings; recognize and report potential hazards.<br><br></li></ul><strong>This is an evergreen posting that supports our ongoing talent pipeline and is used to collect applications for future openings.
