3D Print - Applications Engineer Description - Position Summary The Application Engineer (AE) – Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) serves as the technical leader for identifying, developing, validating, and scaling additive manufacturing applications using HP MJF technology. This customer-facing role bridges sales, product development, manufacturing, and end users to accelerate production adoption, drive material consumption, and enable sustainable business growth. The AE combines deep expertise in additive manufacturing, Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM), materials, process optimization, and manufacturing economics to help customers successfully transition applications from concept and prototyping into repeatable, production-ready manufacturing solutions. Key Responsibilities: Application Development & Qualification * Identify and develop high-value applications suitable for HP MJF technology. * Assess technical feasibility, production readiness, scalability, and business viability. * Evaluate part requirements including function, quality, volume, cost, and manufacturing workflow. * Drive application benchmarking and validation projects. Technical Consulting * Provide DfAM guidance and redesign recommendations to optimize parts for additive manufacturing. * Advise customers on material selection, process capability, tolerancing, surface finish, and performance requirements. * Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and training programs. * Serve as a trusted advisor throughout the customer adoption journey. Production Adoption & Industrialization * Support customers in transitioning applications from prototype to full production. * Develop scalable manufacturing workflows and best practices. * Optimize build preparation, packing density, nesting strategies, and production efficiency. * Conduct cost-per-part and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses. Customer & Sales Engagement * Partner with Sales, Channel Partners, and Business Development teams to uncover new opportunities. * Support customer evaluations, proof-of-concept projects, and executive reviews. * Contribute to technical portions of sales pursuits and business cases. * Participate in customer visits, trade shows, and industry events. Process Optimization & Problem Solving * Troubleshoot printing, dimensional, and mechanical performance issues. * Perform root-cause investigations and corrective action planning. * Standardize workflows to improve repeatability and consistency. * Support continuous improvement initiatives in customer manufacturing operations. Cross-Functional Leadership * Collaborate with Application Consultants, Professional Services, Product Management, R&D, Segment Teams, and Marketing. * Share customer insights to influence product roadmaps and industry strategies. * Develop customer success stories, application references, and technical content. * Support global knowledge transfer and best-practice development. Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. * 5+ years of experience in Additive Manufacturing, Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical disciplines. * Experience with Powder Bed Fusion technologies (MJF, SLS, or equivalent preferred). * Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production economics, and industrial workflows. * Proficiency with CAD software and additive manufacturing preparation tools. * Experience with customer-facing technical engagements. Preferred Qualifications * Direct experience with HP Multi Jet Fusion technologies. * Knowledge of polymer additive manufacturing materials including PA12, PA11, TPU, and specialty materials. * Experience scaling additive manufacturing into production environments. * Familiarity with simulation, build preparation, and workflow optimization software. * Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or quality engineering experience. * Project management experience.
